Koh Chang (means: Elephant Island)is an island in Trat Province, Eastern Thailand. Koh Chang is Thailand's second largest and one of Thailand's most beautiful islands with long white sandy beaches and turquoise crystal clear water of the Gulf of Thailand.
It is home to a wide range of wildlife, including a good selection of birds, snakes, deer and a number of elephants. The island and its vicinity are great places for snorkelling, diving and jungle hiking. It is still far quieter than places like Phuket or Koh Samui but with a wide range of accommodation from luxury hotels to seaside bungalows.
Koh Chang has an area of approximately 429 square kilometres. The topography contains high mountains and complex stone cliffs. The highest mount is Khao Salak Phet which is 744 metres high, rich in fertile evergreen forest - the main water source for the island and its beautiful waterfalls.
Koh Chang has the same seasons as Bangkok. The best season to go is the between October and April but the rest of the year is also good for a nice stay on the island with good portion of sun and refreshing rain showers (and less touristsJ).
Trips and tours: there are many trips and tours to offshore islands organised every day. Island beaches are picturesque and surrounding sea is suitable for diving and snorkelling.
