Kulen Mountains National Park
Phnom Kulen or Koulen Mountains is a sandstone mountain range located about 45 km from the provincial town of Siem Reap. Its name means "mountain of lychees". Phnom Kulen is considered Cambodian Holy Mountain of special religious significance to Hindus and Buddhists who come to the mountain in pilgrimage.
There is a sanctuary in the area - Phnom Kulen National Park - UNESCO World Heritage Site with several attractive places to visit.
Preah Ang Thom, a 16th century Buddhist monastery notable for the giant reclining Big Buddha, 8 meter tall statue of the reclining Buddha reaching nirvana carved into a huge sandstone boulder.
The purpose of the Phnom Kulen National Park is recreational and scientific in order to preserve the natural scenic features of Phnom Kulen Mountains and its famous waterfalls about 15 m tall and 20 m wide.
