Ratanakiri is a province situated on the north - east plateau, bordering Vietnam on the East and Laos on the North. The capital of Ratanakiri province is Banlung. There are two rivers crossing the province, Sre Pork and Sresan River.
A sparsely populated province, it is renowned for its unique natural beauty and wealth of natural resources. The characteristics of the province are undulating hills and mountains, watershed lowlands, crater lakes, rivers and breath-taking waterfalls. Forest cover varies from area to area, from the dense impenetrable forest in the North still rich in wildlife (Lumphat Wildlife Sanctuary with tigers, elephants, red-headed vultures and rare species of animals and birds), to the drier and sparser forest in the South-west. Ratanakiri province offers wonderful opportunities for eco-tourism.
To Banlung you can travel by bus from Siem Reap (duration 11 hours, from 18 USD), Phnom Penh and many other destinations in Cambodia.
